    1. All A129 MODs will load and work fine using any Lens type. The 140 FOV series was created with slightly less sharpness alternative. Currently adjusting Color Saturation and will release both series with new color table totaling 10 new MODs from 22-30 Mb/s.

    2. Hi,
is there any new about those new mods for 140 FOV?

    3. Testing 6th Beta version for both A129 MOD-4Up and A119 MOD-4Rk today weather is poor causing delays. It does look like 140 FOV will require its own tweaked sharpness MOD. If interested in testing 140 Lens MODs let me know.

    4. interested!

      but:

      - i'm not sure how much feedback i can give you in details due to lack of time. i can though upload footage from time to time & let u judge for yourself :)

      - i use the rear camera as an inside cabinet cam (rotated view and installed above mirror) so you'll probably get only front footage from me

      - i am from Israel = middle east = usually hot weather - that means i won't be able to use MOD's that will generate to much load & heat on the processor.

      - if i am still worthy - i am at your service...

  3. Hi, what does Large/Medium/Small File Best IQ means?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Huge File = 500-800 MB 2 min MP4 clip,
      Large File = 400-499 MB 2 min MP4 clip,
      Medium File = 320-399 MB 2 min MP4 clip,
      Small File = 200-319 MB 2 min MP4 clip,
Best IQ = Best Image Quality with most detail.

    2. Hi,
I updated to 6UK mod (Large File Best IQ),
      files sizes are:
190 MB front camera (3 min clip)
160 MB rear camera (3 min clip)
      how come...?

      p.s
after updating i changed settings to default (as you are showing) >> restarted & set settings to my preferences.

    3. All VIOFO stock and MODs save MP4 video using variable bitrate. This allows less complex scenes to use less bitrate and reduce file size. So a white wall creates tiny file and treed area large. Usually bright sunny days use more bitrate. If your camera records under 200MB then quality is probably very poor or resolution is not highest.

      Delete
    4. The A129 WiFi control feature is useful for setting changes and Lens angle alignment but destroys image quality by reducing Bitrate to 8 Mb/s creating MP4 files with less than 200MB. If you are here to download higher bitrate MODs to improve quality always DISABLE WiFi especially in dual camera mode.

    5. Hello! First of all, thanks for the MOD! It's great! There is a question: now there is "MOD-5Wi - Front 25 Mb / s Rear 19 Mb / s = Better Detail = Medium MP4 size", very pleased, but I’m looking at other options - I see in the names of the firmware "Large MP4 size", "Small MP4 size ", and this despite the fact that the total bitrate front + rear = always constant and amounts to 44Mb / s. :) Ie Totally, in any case, it will be ~ 330-340MB per 1 minute of recording (this is two front + rear files - in terms of calculating the space on the flash drive). I compared MOD-5Wi with MOD-4Wh - the file sizes were about the same. What different file sizes are we talking about there, if the total bitrate is the same for everyone? Or is it just the front video is taken into account?

      Delete
    6. Bitrate increments of +1 increase file size slightly on both front and rear cameras clips. In an effort to simplify detail differences I use Good/Better/Best/Max. Select the detail you prefer and expect the MP4 clip size to change. The higher the Bitrate the higher the detail the larger the file size. 25 Mb/s will always produce better detail than 24 Mb/s using same MOD series. Scene complexity and lighting also affect file size. Increasing rear camera bitrate doesn't help if rear window is tinted, suggest boosting front camera to 26 Mb/s Bitrate detail or higher.

  4. WiFi on was the cause... worth mentioning this in your instructions / mod description.

    1. Done! The A129 struggles under the demands of recording from two cameras so it throttles down everything when WiFi LiveView is enabled. WiFi also generates massive heat and shouldn't be used in Hot Summer temperatures.

  5. so... why is the differentiation in the compatibility line?
in some you are indicating 130 (4um)
in others you are indicating 140 (6uk)
& in some you write they are for both...
sorry if i am being too bothering..

    1. The Compatibility refers suitability for the Lens type. MOD-6Uk has low Sharpness which looks perfect on 140FOV Lens, if used with 130FOV Lens will look blurry. All my MODs will load and function with any Lens, but the user has zero control over Sharpness so I create two Sharpness levels. Use anyone that produces the best image for your Lens.

  6. Hi There,
I have problems with the Mod Firmwares and the Parking Mode (3 Wires cable)

The parking mode works ok, but when I start the car, the normal mode will be enabled but the 'Rec led' on the screen don't 'flash' and it don't record in normal mode.
When I stop the car, it switch great to the Parking mode (3Fps for me) and the 'Rec led' on the screen works fine.

    Have you the same things,

    Many thanks!

    1. As you know A129 Parking 3fps Time Lapse Mode requires Hardwire Kit connected to camera side port. Always test your installation using official stock Viofo firmware to confirm voltage signals are detected correctly inside camera.
Only MOD-PKr & PKq modified firmware support all 7 Parking Modes.
      Which MOD are you using?
Always Reset Default Settings after firmware changes.

    2. I use the Official Firmware, and it Works fine.

I always do a 'Reset Default'
      I've used the MOD-2Uq (and the MOD-2Ur I think..)

I will try the PKr version and tell you.(I suppose that it will be with a 'Viofo standard' video bitrate :-( (blur on moving videos)

Why not a Mod with: 22 Mb/s Front 22 Mb/s Rear and Parking mode at 3Fps?

    4. Parking Mode is restricted to Viofo default Bitrates. The complicated algorithm dislikes any adjustment. Your proposed Parking preference pushes past possible parameters, pity poor picture produced. Will continue my quest to crack the code.

does it support parking modes with HK3 hardwire kit?
which parking mode will be best with it (event, lapse, low bitrate)?
what will be the size of a file in low bit rate mode (for 2 or 3 minutes)?
    thanks in advance!

Do all new mod's support all parking modes except buffering feature (unless PKF & PKG that do support buffering)?

F.Y.I - V 1.7 DOES NOT GENERATE SMALLER FILES FOR "LOW BIT RATE" - IT IS BUGGED & PRODUCES FILES SAME SIZE AS IN DRIVE MODE. VIOFO SAYS IT IS FIXED.
SEE HERE, AS I REPORTED IT ON DASH CAM TALK FORUM:
    https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/buffered-parking-mode.38637/page-6#post-470893

There is a V 1.8 that suppose to fix it. I assume that your mods based on V 1.7 also might have the same problem unless you were aware & verified it.

    1. The A129 Duo GPS mount does NOT support any Parking Modes because of wiring flaw. Viofo damaged the Bitrate Tables on v1.70 which few noticed. I have no idea why Viofo Beta 1.70 was released without adequate testing. Some owners that don't use Parking Mode wanted v1.70 MODs to correct the over-sharpness. MODs based on v1.70 will soon be replaced since Low Bitrate Recording is bugged.

Parking Impact events create 1min clip, visual motion create 45sec clips. Always set Loop Recording to 2 mins to prevent normal drive file corruption with high bitrates. Nice job that you have done, I think to buy the A129 for front and rear camera otherwise the a119 v3 seems to be the most better camera in viofo, isn't it?
However, I would to know if the dashcam A129, is today, with the latest firmware, really better than the a119 v3 that you can see on this video.
    https://youtu.be/XtdudFMzfE4

Because we can read plates really more easily with the a119 v3 and not really on the A129 duo :)

Today, do you know what is broken with A129 duo? Parking mode, G sensor?
I say that, because I didn't understand what bug the firmware V1.9 give to us? And what are the new features that we didn't have before?

    Thank you in advance

However, the A129 Duo Pro is not available in my country yet. I just saw it in the USA. But the prices seems very / too high for me and bugguy as you said :(.
So with Viofo, I hesitate between A119 V3 (everything works well on it ?) and the A129 Duo :)

The dashcam will be used mainly on road, is it easy to read them in multiple conditions (night, sun, speed) ?

Do you recommend me this dashcam (A129 DashCam No Pro) for it's price ? :D

Otherwise, maybe you don't know this mark or model, I saw a "Aukey DR02" but it's seems to be more old and the picture less readeable than your A129 which have (good design, GPS, parking Mode and cable for parking mode available seems interesting)
Maybe this could be an other alternative

Thank you in advance about my questions ;)

    3. Dashcam selection can be simplified by price, resolution and channels. A129 1080p Duo front+rear camera system currently has Parking Mode issues but is affordable over other brands such as BlackVue or Thinkware. For single camera installs the A119V3 has superior video detail. Forget about the Aukey cameras. I'd recommend the A129 1080p / 2160p just for the redesigned 4-clip stable mount. Viofo should have created A129 1440p which is perfectly balanced for price, image detail and acceptable video clip size with less heat. Buy the A129 1080p DUO non-IR version, mine is 1 year old and works perfectly with MOD-8WL and Parking Mode OFF.

Knowing the hardware can have everything good with the A129 Duo 1080p, we can just wait and to hope in 2020 to have a good and useful Parking Mode (software).
I know shock G-sensor is not working well in Parking Mode.
However, Do you recommand it in "driving mode" ? In Low / Medium / High sensibility ? I don't want a lock video when I pass some bumps on road ;)

The motion detection is it working in Parking mode (Low /medium/high sensibility mode ?) or you ONLY advise the Low Framerate Parking Mode ?
The video are not lock in Parking Mode Low bitrate ? Is it overwrite everytime ?

Hoping this questions can be useful for other readers passing here

    5. Good questions,
Driving Mode G-sensor=Low prevents pothole clips. Parking Auto Event Buffered Mode is bugged, use Parking Low Bitrate Recording Mode to record continuous 4Mb/s clips. The Parking clips are flagged with 'PF' and stored in 'Movie' folder which is unlocked and overwritten via Loop setting, G-sensor events are saved as read-only locked files in the 'RO' folder. You are correct about the continuous clips being unlocked and once memory card is full the oldest footage will be overwritten. Parking Low Bitrate Recording Mode was never designed for 8 hour recording, which is why buffered Auto Event Detection feature was created to reduce recorded clips and lock them all, its just not reliable enough yet. The Viofo A129 1080p Duo was released in Sept 2018, the A129 2160p Duo was released Nov 2019 with Maximum Bitrate 55Mb/s and higher since its variable which creates huge MP4 files.

I have a A129 IR DUO. I would like to use it as a front and rear dash camera setup. I don't use interior shot. Does the MOD-WK series support in the A129 IR DUO? Will there be any benefits using the A129D MOD-WK rather than the A129 IR MODS? Saw videos of your MOD-WK has many improvements on the A129 DUO which the IR version lacks allot in image quality and details.

    1. A129 Duo IR camera owners can rotate the Lens 180 degrees for either interior view with IR Lamps Auto enabled using IR FW or disabled in IR Color Mode using IR or non-IR FW.

As revealed in my A129 1080p videos the main front camera can be updated with either non-IR firmware or the dedicated IR FW which includes the extra IR Camera Mode settings. Owners can reconfigure the IR camera to non-IR for view out rear window by selecting IR Color Mode to disable IR Lamps which cause whiteout glare on glass ...or... if unhappy with Viofo IR FW image quality simply load IR MOD-8EK ..or.. non-IR MOD-xWK firmware (PWK=Parking / 8WK for Best detail and still on my A129 Duo). The small IR camera actually has a better quality Lens with perfect focus. Remember to disconnect second camera while updating firmware and always disable WIFI while driving for maximum bitrate detail.

    2. Thanks for the advice. The IR Rear cam captures purplish colour on certain objects especially trees. Green leaves become purple. Is this a software issue or its normal in a IR lens?

I'll try out the IR MOD-8EK. Does the IR MOD-8EK and Non IR MOD-8WK has the same front dashcam improvement?

      Delete
  38. When disabling IR Lamps on IR camera the video does have a purple tint on some objects and lights, this is normal from the special IR Lens. For recording out the rear window (often dark tint) at 1080p 16 Mb/s bitrate video quality is already degraded.
The IR MOD has different color profile but very close to non-IR firmware MOD. The Front camera image quality using either MOD should look almost identical ..BUT.. the rear IR Lens changes the colors greatly and will never be realistic since its designed for infrared mono video.
The A129 1080p MODs improve the image quality mainly from doubling or tripling the Viofo stock bitrate.

First off, thanks very much for sharing your time and work! I am not which level of sharpness will be best so I was going to try the medium and install this mod file:
    MOD-8Wl - Front 28 Mb/s Rear 16 Mb/s = Best Detail = Large MP4 size

But, I am confused by this line:
    - All 7 Parking Modes only work on MOD-PWk or PWl or PWm.

Does this mean if I want to use Parking mode, I should not use MOD-8WI? Or do I install both that and the MOD-PWI?

    1. If A129 Duo owners use Parking Mode options are to load official Viofo firmware or MOD-PWi or MOD-PWk but detail is greatly reduced due to bitrate throttling by Viofo. Only one firmware version or MOD can be loaded and run. Always Reset Default Settings after any firmware change.

  42. BCHobbyist, can You make some mod?

Viofo DVR will be ideal in terms of parking protection, but it does not have one important feature:

Depending on the recording mode it should be possible to allocate the amount of space on the memory card for a particular recording mode.
When overwriting files of different modes, they should not overwrite each other. That is, the driving mode should not overwrite the parking mode!

It is implemented in BlackVue, Vugera, Lukas, ThinkWare and other car DVRs.

    For example, the situation:
I left the supermarket, loaded the groceries and drove to the cottage, parked, drank, ate, slept, and the next day I noticed damage to the car. I check the DVR and the parking files are already overwritten by the driving and new parking files ..

Please add memory allocate feature if You can.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Currently the only way to prevent Parking Mode Event clips from being overwritten is to set Parking G-Sensor sensitivity to High which should lock any impact detection clips as read-only. The current issue with A129 Duo & Pro is G-sensor is bugged and not sensitive enough, but works well on old A119 Pro. Will search code for G-sensor trigger limits.

    1. My public MODs rangle from 2016 A119 to 2019 A129 1080p Duo model. I am currently tinkering with the A129 Plus, but like the A139 Duo/single camera version more. I do agree the A129 Plus does need some MOD help. Guessing Viofo is concentrating on A139+ series firmware. Check back later

    1. My A129 1080p MODs will not load or work on the A129 Pro 4K 3840x2160p resolution dashcam. Why Viofo doesn't define their dashcams by resolution is beyond me, makes it confusing (A129 / Plus / Pro ...)

  51. Hi @BCHobbyist

Do you know if on the Viofo A129 Duo ( regular ), is there any timer on the parking mode ? Is it available only on the V2.1 and V2.2 of the firmware and not on the V1.9 ?
I'm running with your firmware (V1.9) since 2020.

I saw that it put low my car battery because I use the low bitrate mode and I use my car only every 2/3 days.
However, after 2 days of continious records, it stop to record because the 3-wire cable saw I reached 12.2V.

In fact, I prefer to say at 10PM (manually). I start to record during night until 8AM (turn off auto from dashcam). And then tonight at 10PM. I will (manually) enable again the parking mode and it will stop at the 8AM next day automaticaly.

    Thanks

    1. excellent question and should be sent to VIOFO as suggestion for future Parking Mode option for all model dash cameras they make. There is no hourly timer setting to prevent recording after so many hours but its a great idea.

Currently the only way to extend Parking Mode security recording coverage with some low power saving is to use non-continuous Auto Parking Mode with 5-10 second buffered pre-event trigger clip recording. Later when no image or vibrations are detected dashcam re-enters low power mode. But this will eventually drain vehicle battery and hopefully 3-wire hardwire kit circuit will detect the battery low voltage cutoff user setting 12.2volts is ideal 12.0 or 11.8 volts is not unless you run dual vehicle batteries or run expensive external Cellink NEO rechargeable Battery Pack specifically for maximum Parking Mode Protection.

    2. OK thank you for your answer and suggestion :). V 1.9 (custom version from you) works very well in my case. It just missing the parking mode timer. I don't want upgrade to V2.1 original version firmware because I saw some issues from users using it and the most important, I can't have the optimized version because you stopped the dev at V1.9 😁. So for the moment I will stay at V1.9 😀

  52. First off thanks for everything you do for us users, really appreciated!
Don't know if you can benefit or if it's even possible, but here is my question. Don't know the correct terminology, and verry little about video recording, but I think you will understand.
Would it be possible to make the Viofo record at a high fps so moving objects are easy to read, BUT save at a lower fps. Like take 60fps, and save only every other picture or even lower. The video produced would maybe not look perfect, but you can at least read better.
Maybe a challange to not produce slower/faster video than realtime.

    1. We tested some MODs in 2018 which captured at 120 fps but saved as 60 then 30 fps but no noticeable detail improvement. Suggest tweaking the settings by disabling the options that increase motion blur => disable WDR, remove CPL Filter use Dash Mat, select 1080p resolution + 60 fps + max Bitrate (Viofo default for A129 Duo is 16 Mbps) MODs range from 22 - 35 Mbs!
